Information We Collect
Information You Give Us
When you use the contact form or email us, we receive your name, your email address, the subject and whatever you write in your message. Please do not include sensitive details, such as health information about an identifiable person or details of an injured worker.
Information Collected Automatically
Like every website, our servers and the networks that deliver our pages record technical details of each request: IP address, date and time, the page requested, the referring page, and the browser and device type. We use these records to keep the site running, secure and free from abuse. We do not use them to identify individual readers.
Information Stored In Your Browser
The site remembers your light or dark display preference in your browser. Advertising and embedded video can set cookies of their own. The Cookie Policy lists each of these.
What We Do Not Collect
- We do not ask readers to create an account.
- We do not have a comments section or a newsletter list.
- We do not record your quiz answers or scores.
- We do not record the figures you enter into a calculator, such as injury counts or hours worked. The calculation is done on your device.
How We Use Information
| Purpose | Information used | Lawful basis (UK and EU) |
|---|---|---|
| Replying to your message | Name, email address, message | Our legitimate interest in answering enquiries, or steps taken at your request |
| Keeping the site secure and working | Technical request records | Our legitimate interest in running a reliable, secure website |
| Remembering your display preference | Light or dark setting kept in your browser | Necessary to provide a setting you chose |
| Showing and measuring advertising | Cookie identifiers and advert interaction, handled by Google | Your consent where the law requires it |
We do not use your information for automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
Advertising
The site is funded by advertising supplied through Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners use cookies and similar identifiers to show adverts, to limit how often you see the same advert, to measure performance, and, where permitted, to personalise adverts based on your visits to this and other websites.
In the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area and Switzerland we obtain consent through Google’s Privacy & messaging tool (a Google-certified consent management platform that implements the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework) before advertising cookies are used. You can reopen that choice at any time via Privacy choices in the footer.
You can switch off personalised advertising in Google’s Ads Settings, and read how Google uses information from sites that use its services in Google’s own explanation. More choices are set out in our Cookie Policy.
Other Services We Use
These companies process information on our behalf or receive it directly from your browser when you load a page:

We do not sell your personal information for money, and we do not pass your contact details to advertisers. We may disclose information where the law requires it, or to protect our rights, our readers or the public.
International Transfers
Some of the companies above process information outside the country you live in, including in the United States. Where information about people in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area is transferred, it is protected by the safeguards those companies provide, such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses.
How Long We Keep Information
- Messages you send us are kept for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and to keep a record of the conversation, then deleted.
- Technical request records are kept for a limited period for security and troubleshooting.
- Your display preference stays in your browser until you clear your site data.
- Advertising cookies expire on the schedule set by Google, described in the Cookie Policy.
Your Rights
United Kingdom And European Economic Area
You have the right to ask for a copy of your personal information, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, to receive it in a portable form, and to withdraw consent at any time. You can also complain to your data protection authority; in the United Kingdom this is the Information Commissioner’s Office.
United States
Depending on your state, you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and not to be treated differently for using these rights. We do not sell personal information for money. Advertising cookies may count as “sharing” or “targeted advertising” under some state laws; you can opt out through Google’s Ads Settings or the industry tools listed in the Cookie Policy.
Using Your Rights

This website is written for working adults, students and safety professionals. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
The site is served over an encrypted connection, access to its administration area is restricted, and we keep the personal information we hold to a minimum. No method of sending or storing information is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
