About This Quiz
Test your understanding of hazardous-substance assessment and practical exposure controls with 25 original questions. This learning resource is useful for workers, supervisors and safety learners handling chemicals or working with processes that generate harmful dust, fume, vapour or biological exposure.
Scope and independence
This quiz concerns Great Britain's COSHH framework, including the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 as amended. It is awareness practice, not a qualification, a workplace COSHH assessment or authorisation to handle a substance. Northern Ireland and other countries have their own legal arrangements. Follow the applicable law, task-specific assessment, safety data and competent advice. Questions distinguish COSHH from the separate asbestos regime.
What you will practise
Start by identifying how exposure occurs during normal work, cleaning and maintenance. Consider whether the substance or process can be removed, then how releases can be contained or captured. Treat PPE as part of an assessed control system, and remember that an SDS informs an assessment but does not replace it.
How to use this quiz
Answer all 25 multiple-choice questions, selecting one answer for each. There is no time limit. The learning pass mark is 70%, answers are shuffled and retakes are allowed. Read the explanations after submission, identify the topics you missed and review them before another attempt. A practice score does not establish workplace competence.
