SUBIC BAY FREEPORT ZONE, PHILIPPINES — Two people, including a firefighter, sustained minor injuries during an overnight fire at a manufacturing facility in the Subic Bay Freeport Zone, according to GMA News reporting on 5 November 2026. The blaze began late on 4 November and spread beyond the original building.
Overnight response extended into Thursday
GMA attributed the injury information to the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority Fire Department and reported that both people received first aid. Its account described employees leaving the building after smoke was detected.
SunStar and Punto! Central Luzon identified the premises as the Jinboway facility in Subic Gateway Park Phase II. Their reports described fire affecting nearby structures and a response involving SBMA and local emergency services. This was an industrial-site emergency with risks to people working in and around the buildings.
The Daily Tribune later attributed a 5:45 a.m. control time on 5 November to SBMA Corporate Affairs Manager Armie Llamas. That update is more recent than early accounts describing active firefighting before dawn. A declaration that a fire is under control does not itself establish that all recovery work is complete.
Stored materials cited; ignition point remains uncertain
The Daily Tribune reported Llamas's assessment that stored textiles and plastics contributed to the fire's spread. Fuel contributing to spread is different from an established ignition cause.
Early accounts disagree about the floor where the fire began: GMA relayed a ground-floor witness account, while SunStar and Punto described an upper-floor origin. No final investigation finding resolving that difference was retrieved. This report therefore does not present either version as a confirmed cause or location of ignition.

The reports highlight two planning questions for manufacturing sites: how stored materials affect a developing fire and how people are accounted for during an overnight evacuation. A response plan needs to remain usable when smoke affects access and the incident crosses a building or tenancy boundary.
Managers reviewing their own arrangements can compare actual stock locations with the assumptions in their fire risk assessment, then test whether alarm, evacuation and assembly arrangements work for the people present on each shift. Our fire evacuation plan guide discusses those elements. These are general applications, not findings that Jinboway breached a requirement.

Checked: GMA News for the fire department-attributed injuries and evacuation account; Daily Tribune for the SBMA-attributed control time and fuel assessment; SunStar and Punto! Central Luzon for site identity, spread and response. These are four reporting organisations, below the preferred five to six. SunStar labels its item a press release, and shared official information is not independent investigation. PhilNews was also checked but repeats GMA and Inquirer reporting and is not counted as independent corroboration. No directly retrievable standalone SBMA incident release was obtained; official statements are attributed through the reports above. The illustration is conceptual. Actual incident photographs remain with the linked publishers and are not reproduced here.
