MODINAGAR, GHAZIABAD DISTRICT, UTTAR PRADESH, INDIA — A worker died after a roof slab collapsed during construction at a house in the Modinagar area of Ghaziabad district, Uttar Pradesh, on 7 November 2026. Police accounts carried by PTI and ANI confirm the death and emergency rescue response; the cause remains under investigation.
Concrete placement interrupted by collapse
Reports place the work in the Sikri area. PTI identifies the deceased as Gauri Shankar, also known as Chhotu. ANI reports that concrete was being placed when the slab fell, while local legislator Manju Shiwach said the role of shuttering movement or another factor required investigation.
Police, fire crews, the National Disaster Response Force and the State Disaster Response Force attended. ANI quotes rural Deputy Commissioner of Police Surendranath Tiwari saying the rescue operation had concluded, superseding the report’s earlier suggestion that more people might remain trapped.
Injury figures remain provisional
PTI’s 7 November report gives five injured; ANI describes five people rescued and taken to hospital, one of whom died. These accounts differ in how they count those affected. This article therefore does not present a single reconciled injury total or infer a final technical finding. Reports of questioning or a police case do not establish criminal guilt.
HSE Blog Analysis
For construction managers, the relevant assurance question is who controls the decision to begin a concrete pour and how the temporary support arrangement is checked against the planned work. A change in sequence, loading or access needs a clear route back to the person responsible for that decision.
A useful review can follow one recent pour from design and preparation through placement and eventual removal of supports. HSE Blog’s overview of formwork hazards and concrete-pour planning provides background; checking risk assessments against work on site helps frame the supervision discussion. These are general editorial applications, not conclusions about what failed in Modinagar.

Checked PTI via The Week, ANI via NDTV, IANS, Times of India, Daily Jagran and Hard Hat Report. The dated agency reports establish the 7 November development; syndicated publishers and the specialist summary are not additional independent witnesses. The reports draw heavily on police. A Hindustan Times search result published on 8 November also reports a police case, but its full page was inaccessible and is not used to resolve casualty discrepancies.
