CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA, UNITED STATES — All workers were safely accounted for after an apparent explosion and fire at the Quaker Oats plant in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on 24 October 2026, officials said in reporting available on 25 October. No worker or firefighter injuries were reported.
Firefighters find smoke and flames
The Cedar Rapids Fire Department received the report at about 4:44 p.m. local time on Saturday. Crews found heavy smoke and flames on the building's north side and began firefighting, according to local coverage of the department's release.
Marion, Hiawatha and Linn County responders assisted. Most of the fire was extinguished by about 6:25 p.m., although firefighters continued work inside. Mayor Tiffany O'Donnell said the affected area handled products and had relatively few employees.
Ignition cause remains under investigation
Associated Press reported that PepsiCo Foods US said the incident would be investigated. The reviewed official accounts did not establish the ignition source. HSEBlog is not treating unconfirmed social-media explanations or a bystander's boiler-related suggestion as findings.
The report belongs to the 25 October Pakistan-time catch-up batch: the late-afternoon Iowa incident occurred after midnight in Pakistan.
