ĦAL FAR, MALTA — A 51-year-old worker died after material being lifted using a tower crane fell on him at a construction site in the Ħal Far Industrial Estate on 24 October 2026, Malta Police said.
Police and safety authorities investigate
Police received the request for assistance at about 1:15 p.m. local time. A medical team and Civil Protection Department personnel attended, but the worker was pronounced dead at the scene. Police identified him as a Turkish national living in Mqabba.
Magistrate Joe Mifsud opened an inquiry. The police investigation is being conducted alongside the Occupational Health and Safety Authority and the Building and Construction Authority.
Times of Malta subsequently reported that the two authorities issued a stop-work notice shortly after 4 p.m. It identified the development as a warehouse project. A stop-work notice is a protective measure; it does not by itself establish criminal responsibility or the final technical cause.
Lifting operations under examination
The official release gives a preliminary account of falling material. It does not establish a failed component, a rigging defect or a final allocation of responsibility. HSEBlog is not presenting any of those possibilities as findings.
