VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA — A Victorian registration milestone for specified amusement rides takes effect on 30 October 2026. Operators of rides designed on or after 1 July 1995 must have item-of-plant registration or must have submitted an application.
What changes today
WorkSafe Victoria says each covered ride must have its design registered—or hold a qualifying certificate of interstate design recognition—before the individual item of plant can be registered. Item registration is separate for each ride, remains valid for 12 months and must be renewed annually.
Operating a covered ride without the required registrations may constitute an offence.
Inspection and records
An initial or renewal application must include a recent statement from a competent person that the ride has been inspected and assessed as safe to operate. Operating and maintenance manuals and the logbook must remain with the ride and be available to inspectors.
Rides designed before 1 July 1995 have a later transition date of 1 November 2027.
HSE Blog analysis
Registration is an administrative gate, not a substitute for daily safety management. Operators still need competent inspections, defect control, maintenance, restraint checks, documented operating limits and supervision.
HSE Blog’s risk-assessment resources and workplace-safety guidance give broader context.
Source verification
The effective date and duties were verified from two official pages: the registration timetable and the amended-requirements guidance. Both are the same primary regulator source; no claim is made that two independent outlets confirmed the change. No incident photograph applies.
