VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA — WorkSafe Victoria has issued a new safety alert urging quad-bike users to assess rollover risks before operating on slopes and unstable ground.
Terrain can rapidly change stability
Quad bikes can become unstable when travelling across slopes, turning, carrying or towing loads, or crossing rough ground. Wet conditions, hidden holes, rocks and uneven surfaces further reduce stability.
The 30 October alert is directed at workplace users, particularly agricultural operations where quad bikes are used for inspections, mustering, spraying or carrying equipment.
Planning before riding
WorkSafe’s related guidance advises users to assess terrain, select a more suitable vehicle where necessary, follow manufacturer limits, keep loads low and secured, reduce speed and avoid steep slopes.
Broader planning principles are covered in HSE Blog’s risk-assessment resources and workplace traffic-management guide.
HSE Blog analysis
A quad bike is not automatically the right vehicle for every farm task. The decision should consider slope, surface, load, attachment, weather and operator competence.
Source verification
The announcement was verified from WorkSafe Victoria’s 30 October alert listing. WorkSafe’s handbook and load-and-towing guidance supplied technical context, not independent evidence of a new incident. No incident photograph applies.
